Lakes of Highland Glen has received a Beautification Award from Keep Pearland Beautiful for its new $2 million entry along the Pearland Parkway.  The community offers new homes from the $150,000s to $360,000s by Beazer Homes, Coventry Homes, Newmark Homes and Plantation Homes.

Lakes of Highland Glen Wins Beautification Award

Featuring four lakes, fountains, a series of stone towers, and dozens of oaks and ornamental trees, Lakes of Highland Glen's $2 million entrance along the Pearland Parkway has won two beautification awards from Pearland organizations.

Keep Pearland Beautiful presented Lakes of Highland Glen with a “Beautification Award” at its annual awards dinner on April 22.

“Lakes of Highland Glen has vastly improved the visual perception of Pearland by all motorists who enter the city via the Pearland Parkway,” said Linda Cowles, executive director of Keep Pearland Beautiful.  “By tastefully landscaping the esplanades and street right-of-ways with trees and shrubs, the developer has gone far beyond the minimum requirements of the City of Pearland's land use ordinance.”

Dan Olson, Vice President of Land Development for Beazer Homes, accepted the award.

“Lakes of Highland Glen helped build the Pearland Parkway, in partnership with the City of Pearland, and we wanted to create a new main entrance that would reflect the parkway's status as the city's premier gateway,” he said.

Lakes of Highland Glen also received a “Business Yard of the Month” award in May from the Pearland Area Chamber of Commerce.

A 550-acre community, Lakes of Highland Glen completed its new main entry earlier this year, to coincide with the opening of the Pearland Parkway from Beltway 8 to FM 518.

Lakes of Highland Glen donated right-of-way and funded construction of the segment of the Pearland Parkway that runs through the community, with the city funding construction to the north and south of the development.

Olson said the entire route of the parkway is designated as a scenic thoroughfare, with tree-lined esplanades and open spaces preserved along the drive from Beltway 8 to FM 518.  Just north of Lakes of Highland Glen, the parkway includes a scenic roundabout.

“The roundabout is an appealing landscape element, preserving a large area of open space in the middle,” Olson said.  “Functionally, it facilitates traffic flow on the parkway from Beltway 8 to FM 518.  It will also provide access to the future McHard Rd., which will connect the parkway to Texas 288 when built.”

In addition to providing a green gateway for Pearland, the Pearland Parkway also plays an important role in area mobility, Olson said.

“Access has been one of the key factors in Pearland's growth, along with quality of life, and the parkway shows Pearland's commitment to continually improving mobility,” he said.  “With the parkway open, the commute from Lakes of Highland Glen to the Texas Medical Center and the Galleria is approximately 20 minutes, which is very appealing to homebuyers.”

Lakes of Highland Glen features new homes priced from the $150,000s to $300,000s by Beazer Homes, Coventry Homes, Newmark Homes and Plantation Homes.  Earlier this year, the community opened a new model home park near the Pearland Parkway entrance.

New-home sales in the community have increased dramatically since the Pearland Parkway opened, Olson said.

“Since the Pearland Parkway opened, homebuyers have really discovered the community,” Olson said.  “Once they visit our builders and learn about our master plan, many decide to become a part of the community.”

The master plan for Lakes of Highland Glen calls for 835 homes, along with 90 acres of recreational amenities including 13 lakes with fountains and waterfalls.  The master plan also includes two community recreation centers and a park, along with a scenic “town waterway” meandering through the master plan.  Construction of the first recreation center is planned to begin in 2004.

Lakes of Highland Glen is located in the Pearland Independent School District, which has a future school site adjacent to the community.
